Hollywood Strikes Back
May 2022: The Academy Museum is finally open and the Warner Bros. tour is back in full swing.
Gotta call out a couple things.
First, seeing the Batmobile from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman during the Warner Bros. studio tour proved to be quite a treat. In person, it’s a beast. While taking it all in, a story I heard years ago really struck me anew. I don’t remember how the topic came up, but a woman I worked with was telling me about a girlfriend of hers who had dated Ted Bundy. She was told he had rigged his car such that passengers could not lock or unlock their door. He controlled it. The story creeped me out back then and it still does. It takes a truly sick mind to do something like that. And now here I was, staring at the stunning muscle car that is the new Batmobile and I couldn’t help but think it would take a truly twisted mind to come up with a chopped-up car like that. But, this time, it’s a twisted mind trying to do good. Seeing this new Batmobile in person made me appreciate it — and The Batman — quite a bit more.
The other thing was at the Academy Museum. I had to take a minute to “worshp” in the presence of the Dude’s robe. Even the display card for the robe was hilarious. The Coen Brothers had described the Dude as “terminally relaxed.” What a fantastic way to describe the character!
Hooray for Hollywood!
Here it is, 15 August 2020, at the tail end of the summer movie season that wasn't.
With any luck, movie theatres in the United States will start reopening on Friday. They'll start with some of the modern classics (Inception and The Empire Strikes Back among them. If all goes according to plan, Christopher Nolan's Tenet will jumpstart the blockbuster business over Labor Day weekend.
Without that regular stream of movies in theatres and audiences instead streaming movies at home, it's time to take a deep breath and look back on some adventures from the past few years. In the above gallery are movie-related photos, along with other show biz, from Hollywood, San Diego — and even a cameo by Godzilla as he terrorizes a Toho theatre in Tokyo.
For more, reminisce about the good ol' days of archaeology and adventure while sipping some beverages at Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar (be on the lookout for his pet snake, Reggie) and then blast off to the future with a trip to Pandora in the below feature articles — all of which coincide with U2 concerts in Florida and a trip to Cuba. That's how things used to roll and we're all looking forward to rolling that way again, as soon as possible.
Hollywood... in Florida
Pay a visit to Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar. It's the best bar. Ever. Anywhere.
Also, take a trip to Pandora in Animal Kingdom.
Of course, there's no place like the happiest place on Earth, Walt Disney World.
