I was at the gym today, putting in one last hurrah for 2011.
It struck me, while looking across the gym from the vantage point of the whirlpool, that there were a couple guys wearing Jack Daniel's T-shirts. It was odd enough to make it feel lke the gym was maybe the site of some clever promotional effort on New Year's Eve... Then again, I was wearing a Guinness T-shirt.
There must've been some promotion - for real - at a nearby bar or club last night.
On another nutrition note, after the gym I stopped by a national pharmacy chain to get some calcium tablets for my mom. I also picked up a couple boxes of Skittles to help ring in the new year (woo-hoo!), but I was appalled by the price gouging in the confection aisle.
Let's see. It's a full buck for a 2-ounce package. But across and down the aisle were 4-ounce boxes for "only" $1.59 (that price plummets to $1.50 each if ya buy two).
Yeah. Had to go "jumbo" with this one. Times two.
Bring on 2012 and the apocalypse.
I've got Skittles. I'm ready.

Heard about this on the radio and it's pretty awesome.
Amelia Earhart is a local traffic reporter (and, yes, a distant relative to the legendary aviator Amelia Earhart). Today she's set off on a trek to retrace a portion of her ancestor's journeys.
Check out her progress on her site: amelia.pilotmag.com.
People following their bliss and making exciting things happen. That's what Mattopia is all about.
Bon voyage, Amelia!

Attended another nice Christmas Eve candlelight service at Bethany Lutheran here in Denver. They're hip Lutherans. Last year, one of the pastors quoted John Lennon. This year, they talked about sending out tweets and texts and they live-streamed all of their Christmas services.
The place was packed at the 17:00 service; since we were stuck in an overlow room, watching the event on a large-screen TV, Ma and I decided to return for a later service. We managed a spot up front, to the side, at the 21:00 service and that one also wound up spilling over to an overflow room.
Good atmosphere, friendly people; a nice blend of tradition and modern awareness. They did mention the Broncos (blown out by the lowly Bills earlier in the day), but no Tebowing or Tebow references were made.
Check out their site, bethany-denver.org. It's not as slick as I was hoping, given the "hipness" of the pastors, but it's got the info.
