"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Congratulations, Bono: Winner of the King Center's "Salute to Greatness" award!

Howard Dean's been accused of having a bad attitude. But former Texas governor Ann Richards has a different spin on it: He's got edginess. She likes men with an edge to 'em and she's endorsed Dean.

Ya see, expressing frustration is not necessarily a sign of anger or a bad attitude. It's more a sign of pent up ambition and a desire to make things better. That scares some people who are petrified of rocking the boat - or the vote.

But that's not to say I'm endorsing the guy. Hardly.

After all, I too am running for President.

Remember: Vote Mattimus in November!

Here's a quote for those spineless wonders in Corporate America who are simply happy to have a job and a cup of water:

"The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who, in time of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality." - Dante

Quotes from the Success page-a-day calendar:

"Never let yesterday use up too much of today." - Will Rogers

"Men who have attained things worth having in this world have worked while others idled, have persevered when others gave up in despair, have practiced early in life the valuable habits of self-denial, industry, and singleness of purpose. As a result, they enjoy in later life the success so often erroneously attributed to good luck." - Grenville Kleiser

"What you are afraid to do is a clear indicator of the next thing you need to do." - Anonymous

While on the subjects of yesterday, perseverance, and fear, eHarmony has found 10 matches for this YUMMY.

I just did the eHarmony personality profile. At the end, eHarmony could find no matches for me at the moment, even though my personality report was extremely positive. (A gal would have to be nuts not to... Never mind.)

After all was said and done, eHarmony said this: "If you want to increase your chances to receive more matches, you can expand the geographic area from which you are willing to accept candidates."

Uh... HELL-OOOOO! I had already selected ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!

I attended a screening of Girl With a Pearl Earring a couple weeks ago. The well-done film stars Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson.

Firth was interviewed by Michele Hatty in USA Weekend for 2-4 January 2004. Turns out he's a strummer just like me.

Here's an excerpt: "The actor likes to hole up in his London home and play his ax: 'It soothes me to play the guitar. It doesn't soothe anyone else, unfortunately. But I can hold one fo rhours, and I find it extremely satisfying. It's an anti-stress device.'

"Does he compose love songs for his wife? 'No,' he says. 'My marriage would be doomed if I attempted that.'"

OK. New year, renewed ambitions.

On the docket: Screenplay. Movie reviews. U2 coverage. Advanced Web design.

Yeah...

So. With all that under control, how about adding the guitar to the mix?

I remember seeing a comment from Springsteen about the two most unpopular things in his house while he was growing up: 1. Him. 2. His guitar.

Good thing I live alone... with my Fender Celtic guitar!
